Andy Schooler Wimbledon Day 2 Preview

Andy Schooler takes a look at the best, most eye-catching matches on Tuesday’s order at Wimbledon 2025 – and picks out his best bets for them.

Don’t forget that Betano are offering you the chance to win two hospitality tickets to the Wimbledon final. To enter, simply place a £1 bet on your outright winner of the 2025 Wimbledon men’s singles through the promotion on this link.

Remember, this offer is for new customers only and entries must be 18 or over. Full t&Cs in the link here.

Centre stage

Barbora Krejcikova v Alexandra Eala (1st match, Centre Court – 1330 BST)

Krejcikova may be the defending champion but she looks vulnerable here.

Due to injury issues, the Czech didn’t make her seasonal debut until mid-May and she’s gone just 3-4 since.

Yes, she did win two matches in Eastbourne last week, although both were against British wild cards and she then withdrew from her scheduled quarter-final. Perhaps that was precautionary but it’s not sending out great signals.

One suspects she’ll be keen to play this match even if not 100% fit – having the honour of opening Centre Court on ladies’ day and all that – but if she’s not properly there physically, Eala is more than capable of punishing her.

The Filipino has been one of the breakthrough players of the season on the WTA Tour, beating Iga Swiatek in Miami and then, last week, making that Eastbourne final where she held championship points.

The youngster was tearful after missing those chances but overall it was a very good week and if she is able to bring that form to the All England Club, she’s capable of sending the champion packing.

Best of British

Jack Draper v Sebastian Baez (3rd match, Court 1)

Plenty will be tuning in to watch Draper in that evening slot once reserved for a certain Andy Murray.

After a superb season which has seen him rise to fourth in the world rankings, Draper is now seen as a genuine title contender here.

Baez looks an ideal first opponent. The Argentine is a clay specialist, one who hasn’t played a grasscourt match since Wimbledon last year.

He’s just 3-8 lifetime on the surface, losing his last five. Five of his last six defeats have come in straight sets and one suspects his weak serve is going come under fire here.

There are obviously a lot of short prices surrounding Draper so this doesn’t look the greatest betting heat but for those seeking an angle, perhaps under 8.5 first-set games is for you.

That’s been the outcome in four of Baez’s last nine grasscourt matches, including his Wimbledon opener last year against Brandon Nakashima, hardly a player renowned for his strong return.

In terms of stronger opponents, Tommy Paul – the highest-ranked player Baez has faced on this surface – won the first set 6-1 at Eastbourne in 2023.

Around the grounds

Gael Monfils v Ugo Humbert (3rd on Court 12)

If you want to be entertained royally on Tuesday, head to (or tune into) Court 12.

Monfils has long been tennis’ ultimate showman and now, at the age of 38, this could be his final Wimbledon appearance – expect plenty of dives and flamboyance to bring back memories of Boris Becker.

Humbert is also out of the old school – he loves coming forward and will serve and volley plenty. Again, a throwback to days of yore.

It has the potential to be closer than the odds suggest – Humbert starts the 2/5 favourite.

Previous meetings have been split 3-2 in Humbert’s favourite but three of the five have gone to a deciding set, including one right here at Wimbledon. One of the ‘misses’ was a match which ended due to a first-set withdrawal.

Humbert is the better grasscourt player but while he’s had plenty of recent wins on the surface, he’s also had some disappointments, failing in semi-finals in Den Bosch and Eastbourne when well fancied. Indeed, he hasn’t always been the best when under pressure or a firm favourite.

Interestingly, he’s regularly struggled to settle in at Wimbledon – all five of his previous first-round matches here have gone to a fifth set.

This only fuels my theory that this could be tight. Throw in Humbert’s strong lefty serve and over 39.5 games in the match looks the bet to me.
