When & Where is the Next FIFA World Cup?

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first tournament to be hosted by three nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Forty-eight teams from six confederations will compete in matches held in 16 cities between June 11 and July 19, 2026.

The host cities and stadia are as follows:

  • AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas, USA

The FIFA World Cup Format & Teams

This is a significant milestone in World Cup history, as it marks the first time 48 nations have qualified for the tournament. This is up from the 32 teams that contested the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and means nations from six confederations will compete for the first time.

At least four nations will make their FIFA World Cup debut in 2026: Uzbekistan, Jordan, Curacao, and Cape Verde. The three host nations (USA, Canada, and Mexico) have qualified automatically.

The first round of the World Cup will be contested across 12 groups of four teams, with each nation playing each other once. The top two teams progress automatically to the knockout rounds alongside the top eight third-placed teams.

The knockout rounds continue until the third-placed match on July 18 in Miami, followed by the World Cup final in New Jersey on July 19, 2026.

World Cup Outright Betting: Who Will Win in 2026?

Could 2026 be England’s year? The Three Lions roared into the World Cup with a perfect qualifying record, but it will be far from easy for Thomas Tuchel’s men. Below are the favourites to win the tournament in the USA:

Spain 4/1*

La Roja are the favourites to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but since then, they have flattered to deceive, going out in the group stage in 2014 and being eliminated in the round of 16 in Russia and Qatar.

However, Spain won Euro 2024 in Germany and are undoubtedly the most talented squad in Europe going into the 2026 World Cup. They’ve been handed an easy group, too, so expect them to go deep into the tournament.

England 11/2

The 2026 World Cup will be Thomas Tuchel’s first as England's manager. The German oversaw a perfect qualifying campaign, and many expect England to do well on American soil in the summer of 2026.

The problem with England, of course, is you’re never quite sure which team will turn up on the world stage. The Three Lions finished in the quarter-finals in Qatar after a fourth-placed finish in Russia in 2018. Could 2026, 60 years after the 1966 Wembley triumph, be the year of England’s second World Cup title?

France 7/1

This tournament will be Didier Deschamps’ swansong, as the legendary head coach has already announced that he will be stepping down after this World Cup.

The French have contested the last two World Cup finals, winning in Russia in 2018 and narrowly losing to Argentina in Qatar in 2022. They’re talented, experienced, and know what it takes to win, so expect France to pose a serious threat in the 2026 World Cup.

Brazil 15/2

Brazil might be the only team to have won the World Cup five times, but they haven’t been crowned world champions since 2002, and many believe a Selecao triumph is long overdue.

There’s no doubt that Argentina’s triumph in 2022 stung their bitter rivals, and Brazil go into this World Cup under serial-winning head coach Carlo Ancelotti. With a supremely talented squad and history on their side, having won the 1994 World Cup in the USA, 2026 could be Brazil’s year.

Argentina 8/1

Lionel Messi is set for a glorious summer, with the Argentina captain likely to become the first man, alongside his long-time rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, to compete at six World Cups.

But can Argentina defend their World Cup title? This feat has only been achieved twice: Italy in 1934 and 1938, and Brazil in 1958 and 1962. They have the players, but the pressure could be too much, and Argentina may struggle to replicate their feats of 2022.
