Darts Betting & Odds

The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) features the leading darts players in Europe following its split from the British Darts Organisation (BDO) in 1992.

Today, the PDC hosts many of the biggest darts events on the calendar, including the World Championship and the Grand Slam of Darts.

Join us as we explain how to bet on darts at Betano and discover the best darts odds and markets for all major PDC events throughout the season.

Darts Betting Markets

Darts is a popular sport among UK punters, and there are many ways to bet on the darts action in PDC events. Here are some of the darts betting markets currently offered by Betano:

  • Outright: Bet on the player you think will win significant events like the PDC World Championship outright.
  • Match winner: Back Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, or Michael van Gerwen to win a match against their opponent in any major darts event.
  • Handicap markets: In some darts events, you can opt for handicap markets that level the playing field. This is where higher-seeded players must overcome a leg deficit (often 1.5 legs) to win their match against a less-fancied opponent.
  • Most 180s: You can bet on the player you think will hit the most 180s in a darts match.
  • Highest checkout: Another darts betting option is a wager on the player you think will make the highest checkout, with the highest being 170.
  • Nine-dart finish: If a player can check out 501 in just nine darts, you can bet on this outcome to spice things up in your betting slip.
  • In-play betting: At Betano, you can take advantage of numerous in-play darts betting markets as the action unfolds, which is perfect as you live stream the action from Ally Pally or other iconic darts venues.

How Do Odds Work in Darts?

Odds in darts work like they do in all other sports. Ahead of each darts event, we provide prices for each competitor based on how likely they are to win. You can check odds as fractions or decimals, depending on how you like to read your selections.

Researching darts odds and backing your chosen players at good value odds is essential to maximise your winning potential.

How to Win Darts Bets

Research is critical to winning darts bets. Darts newbies might see Michael van Gerwen competing at a tournament and back the Dutchman to win without considering any other details. But in reality, to win darts bets, you need to consider the following.

Consider all competitors

Darts throws up surprises from time to time; just look at Luke Littler’s incredible rise to stardom. But we’ve also seen some unbelievable shocks at some of the world’s biggest events in recent years, including:

  • At the 2018 World Matchplay, world number 68 Jeffrey de Zwaan defeated Michael van Gerwen 10-8 in one of the biggest shocks the Winter Gardens has ever seen.
  • During the 2004 World Grand Prix, Andy Callaby defeated Phil Taylor 2-0 in the opening round, perhaps the biggest shock in darts history.
  • In his first season in the PDC, bricklayer James Richardson defeated Raymond van Barneveld 3-0 at the Ally Pally in an opening-round contest that nobody saw coming.

While upsets of such magnitude don’t happen yearly, they occur, so don’t blindly back the favourite without researching!

Research form

As in all sports, form plays a big role in the outcome of major darts tournaments. Check which players are currently in form and consider which players have been on a cold streak. This will help you select players likely to do well at the current tournament.

Check the world rankings

You should also check the current world rankings before picking your winners. The PDC Live Order of Merit is a great place to begin your research, indicating which players are ranked the highest. It also shows how many places a player has risen or dropped due to recent competition.

Look at head-to-head records

As darts is an individual contest, head-to-head records can give you an idea of who will likely triumph. Some players, though ranked lower in the Order of Merit, have the beating of specific opponents, which can be a great way to find value among pre-match odds.

What PDC Events Can I Bet on?

So, which PDC events can you bet on at Betano? Here are some of the major events and tournaments to look forward to this year:

  • PDC World Championship: Starting in December, the PDC World Championship is the biggest single-elimination event in darts. Phil Taylor is the record-holder, with an incredible 14 titles.
  • UK Open: Played over three days in June, the UK Open is another PDC-ranked event that sees 168 players compete in a single-elimination format. Again, Phil Taylor is the most successful player in UK Open history, with five titles.
  • World Matchplay: Hosted at the iconic Winter Gardens in Blackpool, the World Matchplay is one of the PDC’s most popular events. Taylor won the World Matchplay 16 times in his career.
  • World Grand Prix: Like most other PDC events, Taylor dominated the Grand Prix during his career, landing eleven wins. Luke Humphries won the event in 2023.
  • Grand Slam of Darts: Introduced in 2007, the Grand Slam of Darts was the first tournament to feature BDO and PDC players. Following Gerwyn Price’s dominance between 2018 and 2021, Michael Smith and Luke Humphries won the Grand Slam of Darts in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
  • Players Championship Finals: 64 players compete in the Players Championship Finals based on their standing in the PDC Order of Merit. Michael van Gerwen has won the event seven times, but Luke Humphries won in 2023.
  • European Championship: Bringing together the best European darts players, the European Championship is another ranked PDC event you can bet on at Betano. Scotsman Peter Wright secured his second European Championship title when he won in 2023.
