Despite finishing third in the 2024/25 Premier League, Manchester City experienced their worst league finish and first trophyless campaign since Guardiola became manager in 2016 (barring the Community Shield).
City suffered a mid-season slump, which saw them endure a winless streak of 13 matches across all competitions, including four consecutive Premier League defeats and a heavy 0-4 loss at home to Tottenham Hotspur.
Guardiola’s side failed to excel in most competitions across 2024/25. They were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the round of 16 by previous winners Real Madrid, marking City’s earliest exit from the competition under Guardiola. City suffered a similar fate in the EFL Cup, departing in the fourth round following a defeat to Tottenham early in the season.
However, City had an impressive FA Cup run, which took them to Wembley for the final. They ultimately lost out on their eighth trophy, succumbing to a smash-and-grab performance by Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.
Across the two transfer windows in 2025, City spent over £295 million adding Nico González, Omar Marmoush, and others in January, followed by the big arrivals of those mentioned above in the summer window.
With the fans and the rest of the footballing world placing such high expectations on Manchester City, Guardiola will try everything to ensure his team is back to winning in the coming season. They will undoubtedly be a team to consider as potential champions of the 2025/26 Premier League.
After a disappointing campaign, Manchester City will also want to make a statement in the Champions League. Having won the competition back in the 2022/23 season, they can be crowned champions of Europe once again, and we have them priced at 8/1* at Betano.
