Every rugby league fan hopes their side will make it to Wembley Stadium for the Challenge Cup final in June. This year, Hull Kingston Rovers and Warrington Wolves will travel to the capital to compete in the showcase event, with both teams having so much to prove.
Rovers are looking for their first Challenge Cup title since 1980 and want to right the wrongs of their humiliating 50-0 defeat in 2015 and their devastating 17-16 2023 final loss to Leigh Leopards.
Warrington will return to Wembley for a second successive season, and as they were well beaten by Wigan last time out, they will be keen to make amends.
Here, we preview the 2025 Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium and tell you how to bet on rugby league at Betano Sportsbook.
This year’s Challenge Cup final will take place at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday, 7th June 2025, with a 15.00 kick-off time. Warrington Wolves will face Hull Kingston Rovers for the grand prize.
At Betano, we’ve priced Hull KR as the favourites to defeat Warrington Wolves at Wembley. Rovers last featured in the Challenge Cup final in 2023, losing 17-16 to Leigh in a closely-fought game.
They haven’t won the Challenge Cup since 1980, when they defeated their fierce city rivals, Hull FC, at the old Wembley Stadium. However, Rovers have been losing finalists six times, including that 50-0 drubbing by Leeds Rhinos in 2015, which remains the biggest ever loss in a Challenge Cup Final.
However, this season feels different for Rovers, who top the Super League table after ten matches, following a brilliant start to the campaign. While there’s a long way to go, Rovers also finished second in the Super League last season and have cemented themselves as one of the top rugby league teams with a shot at Wembley glory.
The likes of Joe Burgess and Mikey Lewis have been in top form this season and were instrumental in their 36-12 defeat of Catalan Dragons to secure Hull’s place at Wembley.
In June, they will face a Warrington Wolves team that will be seeking its tenth Challenge Cup title. The Wolves lost 18-8 to 21-time Challenge Cup winners Wigan Warriors in last season’s final, and they’re on the hunt for their first Cup triumph since 2019.
The Wolves have had an uncharacteristically poor start to the Super League season, finding themselves in ninth place at the time of writing. They finished third last season, and many expected them to have another top campaign this time around.
Though we fancy Rovers to win the Challenge Cup, Warrington’s relative recent successes at Wembley, and the fact that they’re searching for their tenth title, may give them the confidence to win the showcase match in the capital.
Since 2007, Warrington Wolves have had the upper hand in the Super League over Hull Kingston Rovers, winning 23 of 38 matches. Rovers have won 14 times against the Wolves in the Super League. The teams last met in the Super League Playoffs last season, with Hull KR edging a super tight affair 10-8.
Joe Burgess has had a brilliant start to the campaign for Hull KR, and he was imperious in the semi-final against Catalan Dragons, taking every kick and claiming some incredible aerial catches.
He’s a highly experienced campaigner at this level and knows what it takes to win the Challenge Cup, having won it on the fringes of the squad with Wigan Warriors in 2013.
Veteran Aussie prop Paul Vaughan is one of Warrington’s best performers, and he will still be reeling from the 2024 Challenge Cup final loss to Wigan Warriors.
He was instrumental in Warrington’s 21-14 win over Leigh Leopards in the Challenge Cup semi-final, scoring a sensational try that proved crucial. Marc Sneyd’s return from an eye socket injury could also be significant ahead of the final at Wembley Stadium.
