Since the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Tour arrived on the scene, the PGA Tour has been scrambling to win back viewers attracted to the unique and exciting LIV format.
The latest attempt to show that the PGA Tour is up with the times is the newly conceived Tomorrow Golf League (TGL), launched by the PGA’s top players, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, in 2025. But what exactly is the TGL, and how does it work?
Here, we explain everything you need to know about the 2026 TGL Golf season and reveal how to bet on the golf action today at Betano Sportsbook.
The TGL is a new and exciting golf format created by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Mike McCarley. Though not a Tour or addition to the PGA, it is endorsed by the PGA Tour and is seen by many as their long-awaited answer to LIV Golf and its team-based approach to the game.
The first iteration of the tournament involved 24 players, split into six teams, from January to March 2025.
The league is played indoors at the SoFi Centre in Florida and combines a golf simulator with real golf in a short-game area. It’s a unique and exciting combination of technology and real golf, offering the public something new.
Also, all players wear a mic while playing, giving fans an insight into their strategy.
The TGL has six teams, comprised of 24 of the world’s best golfers. At the end of the 2025 season, the organisers announced that a seventh team, Motor City Golf Club, representing Detroit, would join the league in 2027.
Below are the details of the teams and players who competed in season one of the TGL. These teams and rosters are subject to change for 2026:
As was the case in season one, the 2026 iteration of TGL will run from January to March, with fixtures scheduled every Monday night. Each match is held at the SoFi Centre in Palm Beach, Florida.
The inaugural season of TGL concluded in March 2025 with Atlanta Drive Golf Club clinching the SoFi Cup. Led by Billy Horschel, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, and Lucas Glover, they defeated New York Golf Club in a 2-0 finals series. Each Atlanta Drive player earned $2.25 million, contributing to the team's $9 million prize from a total purse of $21 million.
New York Golf Club, featuring Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, Cameron Young, and Matt Fitzpatrick, secured second place with a $4.5 million payout.
TGL's innovative format, combining virtual and real golf in a high-tech arena, garnered significant attention, with matches averaging over 500,000 weekly viewers. The league's success has set the stage for potential expansion and the inclusion of women's golf in future seasons.
The 2026 season has already been confirmed, with fixtures, rosters, and team changes to be confirmed later in 2025.
It’s fair to describe the format and scoring of the TGL as unique in the world of golf. It blends simulation and real-world golf in a purpose-built indoor stadium. Ultimately, it’s the PGA Tour’s response to LIV Golf. But it’s very different from the concept of the Saudi-backed golf league, other than the team format.
Each of the six teams plays each other once in a round-robin league format. Each match begins with every player hitting balls into a giant simulator. Then, to finish the hole, they move to a real-life short game area set up within the arena.
Each match consists of 15 virtual holes, with 3v3 matches taking place. The first nine holes are played as alternate-shot triples, followed by six holes of singles. In the singles, the players face each opponent over two holes apiece.
There are no ties or carryovers; every hole is scored, with one point awarded to the winner. The winning team receives two points at the end of the match. If the match ends in a tie, a sudden-death nearest-to-the-pin competition will be played to determine the winner.
At the end of the league in March, the top four teams contest a play-off stage, leading up to the best-of-three final, determining the TGL winner.
If it sounds a bit confusing, that’s because it is, at first. We recommend watching a couple of rounds of the TGL to familiarise yourself with the format.
You can tune into it live on Sky Sports in the UK. Alternatively, watch some of the highlights on YouTube to see how the game plays out in real time.
To add to the excitement, numerous “special rules” not used in other golf tournaments are in play in the TGL league:
