Future Races and Meetings

High-profile horse races, events, and meets run throughout the calendar year. Here, we look forward to some of the top future horse racing events you can bet on at Betano:

Cheltenham November Meeting

Though Cheltenham is primarily known as a Spring festival, the racecourse’s November meeting, which runs between 15 and 17 November, is a pre-Christmas special on the UK horse racing calendar.

The meet kicks off with Countryside Day, followed by November Saturday and the Gold Cup. The final day, November Sunday, hosts the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle Race.

King George VI Chase

Open to horses four years or older and held at the iconic Kempton Park, the King George VI Chase is a Grade 1 National Hunt steeplechase on Boxing Day (26th December) each year.

It has been run since 1937 and is regarded as the second-most prestigious chase in England. Kauto Star, with five wins, is the most successful horse in the chase's history.

Grand National

The Grand National is a handicap steeplechase and the most iconic horserace among the British public. It’s run over four miles and 2.5 furlongs, with a prize purse of £1,000,000. It’s held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Merseyside. It is next scheduled for 12th April 2025.

People who don’t normally bet on horse racing typically have a flutter on Grand National weekend, as the race is so alluring to the British public.

1000 Guineas & 2000 Guineas

The 1000 Guineas Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race for three-year-old fillies, held annually at Newmarket. It follows the 2000 Guineas Stakes, open to three-year-old colts and fillies.

The Guineas are two of Britain’s five classic races, with big prize pools and crowds. The races follow the Grand National on the calendar and are scheduled for May 2026.

Kentucky Derby

America’s number one horse race is the Kentucky Derby, held annually on the first Saturday in May. The race is run at the Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, and is often described as “the most exciting two minutes in sports.”

Sovereignty won the 2025 Kentucky Derby, following in the footsteps of legendary winners like Omaha and Secretariat, who wrote themselves into American racing folklore with brilliant wins at Churchill Downs.

The Oaks

The Oaks Stakes – also known as the Epsom Oaks or simply the Oaks – is a Group 1 flat race for three-year-old fillies at Epsom Downs racecourse.

It’s one of the oldest races on the circuit, first run in 1779. It is the third of Britain’s five classics held in May annually. Minnie Hauk beat stablemate Whirl to win the Epson Oaks in 2025 for Aidan O’Brien, with Ryan Moore in the saddle.

The Derby

Usually scheduled for the first Saturday in June, the Derby is also held at Epsom Downs. It’s the richest race in Britain, with a purse of over £1.6 million.

Aidan O’Brien is the leading trainer in derby history, with 11 wins, including the 2025 Derby winner, Lambourn.

Royal Ascot

Between the 17th and 21st of June, Royal Ascot plays host to one of the most iconic meetings in horse racing, with 35 races scheduled for the festival.

Races like the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes and the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes capture the imagination, with a wide array of betting specials and options throughout the festival.

Types of Horse Racing Betting Markets at Betano

There are many ways to bet on horse racing online, but which are the most popular horse racing betting markets at Betano? Here are some of the best options to help you get started:

  • Outright winner: Do you want to keep things extremely simple? Bet on the horse you think will win the race in an outright wager. If the horse wins, you win a payout based on the odds provided.
  • To win by distance: This popular wager is a spread betting market that predicts the aggregate total of winning margins in each race at a meeting. For flat races, the max win is 12 lengths, while it can be up to 30 at National Hunt races.
  • To place: Rather than betting on a horse to win outright, you can bet on a horse to place – to finish in the top three (or potentially more) places. You will receive a payout if your chosen horse places, albeit at reduced odds.
  • Bet boost: At Betano, we offer price boosts ahead of many top races and events throughout the year, including Cheltenham Festival and the Grand National. Backing a horse with a bet boost is a brilliant way to increase your potential returns.
  • Without the favourite: When a clear favourite is likely to win a specific horse race, you can back a winner from the field without the favourite included. This opens the field and means you will win if your horse finishes in second place.

Horse Racing Bet Calculator

We acknowledge that horse racing betting markets might seem a little tricky to navigate for some people. That’s why we’ve put together our easy and free-to-use horse racing bet calculator.

It’s the easiest way to calculate horse racing bets. Decide which type of bet to place, be it a single, each-way, double, treble, Super Yankee, Heinz, or other.

Then, enter details of your bet, including the amount and odds format, and whether you wish to include fold options and the rule of 4.

We will then do all the hard work on your behalf, and our horse racing calculator will display the odds and potential profit for your selection. It’s as simple as that!

Horse Racing Betting Offers

At Betano, we offer regular promotions for new and existing customers. If you sign up to Betano today to bet on horse racing, you will receive up to £40 in free bets on your first horse racing wager when you state at least £10 on any race within three days of signing up at odds of 2/1+.

We also have a best odds, guaranteed promotion for horse racing punters. If you take the Early Price (EP) or Board Price (BP) at any UK or Irish race between 9.00 am and the start time of the race, you will lock in the best price for your horse for this race. If the Starting Price (SP) is bigger, we will payout with the best odds attached.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rule 4 is a general rule of betting which relates to the reduction of winnings when a horse you have backed wins or is placed. They are made when a horse is withdrawn from a race and it becomes easier for the other runners to win.
A handicap is a race where each horse is allocated a weight, according to its ability, in an attempt to equalise every horse's chance of winning.
To calculate potential winnings using decimal odds, multiply the decimal odds by the amount wagered. This will give you the total payout including the initial stake.
SP (starting price) horse racing betting indicates the official odds a horse started with at a bookmaker before a specific race.
The odds in a horse racing bet indicate how much you will win when betting on a specific horse. For instance, if you back a horse with odds of 4/11 to win a race outright, a £1.00 wager would return a total profit of £0.36.
An each-way bet in horse racing is a bet on a horse to win a race and the horse to place (finish in the top three or four positions).
In horse racing, ante-post betting is a wager placed before the betting market at the racecourse has opened, which can lead to better odds for punters. You can access ante-post horse racing odds at Betano.
